Specialty Care

Some community members may have certain conditions or find themselves in situations that require special attention and care. To assist and support in these cases, Advena Living of Clearwater offers a range of programs and services that include sepsis and infection management, wound care, palliative care/hospice, and facilitation of social services from licensed social workers.

Sepsis Management Program

Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when the body has an extreme response to an infection that damages its own tissues. Because sepsis can be especially serious for the senior population, Advena Living of Clearwater has developed a Sepsis/ID Management Program to promote early identification, provide treatment and reduce re-hospitalizations related to sepsis:

  • Clinical staff specially trained in the treatment and early identification of infections and sepsis (TMF curriculum)
  • Stat lab capabilities for CBCs and blood cultures
  • Antibiotics adjusted with culture and sensitivity results
  • Standing orders for initiation of hydration protocols via IV fluids
  • IV antibiotic administration (urgent and routine)
  • Daily labs until cleared
  • Therapy initiated as soon as possible to ensure quick recovery

A proactive treatment option included in our sepsis program is Theraworx Protect, an integral part of infection prevention and control programs for reducing healthcare-acquired conditions, hospital readmissions and antibiotic use. It is applied to the skin to promote skin and urinary tract health.

Wound Care

The interdisciplinary team at Advena Living of Clearwater, including a Certified Wound Nurse, uses physician-directed protocols to achieve successful outcomes, which can aid in your quick recovery and enable you to return home as soon as possible.

We provide treatment and healing for many types of wounds, including:

  • Pressure ulcers
  • Diabetic/neuropathic wounds
  • Venous insufficiency ulcers
  • Arterial insufficiency ulcers
  • Infected and/or draining wounds requiring IV antibiotics
  • Wounds requiring frequent dressing changes or VAC Therapy
  • Amputations
  • Post-traumatic wounds
  • Post-surgical wound grafts and flaps

Palliative Care and Hospice

Our palliative care services include a comprehensive, multidisciplinary care program for community members with severe illnesses. Palliative care focuses on relieving pain and other symptoms at any stage of serious disease or diagnosis. Our team aims to improve the quality of life and provide the utmost support for community members and their families during this challenging time.

In the case of advanced disease, it is our honor to ensure that our community members continue to live with quality and dignity. Caretakers and family members can feel secure in knowing that the final days of their loved ones are filled with comfort, meaning, and compassionate care in a homelike setting.

Social Services

An important component of the therapeutic services offered at Advena Living of Clearwater is our ability to offer psychosocial services for our community members and their families.

The Social Services Department, which provides these services, is composed of professionally licensed social workers with experience in the field of gerontology and long-term care programs. The range of psychosocial services includes advocacy, service coordination, discharge planning and supportive intervention.

The office is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
